Can A Body Detox Improve My Health?

September 30, 2009 · Posted in Miscellaneous · Comment

Getting a body detox is gaining popularity in many health circles. Years of poor eating habits, low-fiber diets, environmental pollution, and stress cause the toxins to build up and eventually get absorbed back into the body. When toxins are not properly eliminated, this may lead to sickness and disease.

Generally, our body does a good job in trying to eliminate the toxins we are exposed to daily. But it is a challenge to handle the onslaught of toxins typically we face daily. The toxins will adversely affect the functioning of vital organs like the liver, kidneys, and the colon. Poor health is usually a result of a toxic colon which leads to a toxic liver, thus polluting the tissues and the bloodstream. Our body organs and tissues must be free of toxins for the immune system to function optimally.

How Do I Know I Need A Body Detox?

Here is a partial list of symptoms that may indicate you needing a body detox soon. Diarrhea, impaired digestion, constipation, fatigue and low energy, gas and bloating, hemorrhoids, excess weight, food allergies, bad breath, foul smelling stools. These are only some of the symptoms.

Just like you car needs the oil changed regularly or your outside of your body regularly needs a washing, so does your internal body. Waiting too long or till you start experiencing some symptoms listed above, is not a wise idea. You will increase your risk of developing much more serious problems like cancer the longer you procrastinate your body cleansing.

Research clearly proves that our bodies are not capable of elimination all the different toxins and chemicals we inhale and ingest every day. They simply accumulate in our cells (especially fat cells), tissues, blood, organs (such as the colon, liver and brain) and remain stored for an indefinite length of time causing all kinds of health problems. Cleansing your body of toxins will improve your health and boost immune system function.

Cause of Headaches - An Introduction

September 30, 2009 · Posted in Miscellaneous · Comment

Although medical science cannot pinpoint the exact cause of headaches in a patient, some of the most common causes of headaches can typically be blamed in the majority of cases. Headaches are broken down in the medical community into a few categories that assist in diagnosis. A primary headache occurs to millions on a daily basis. Primary headaches are what the majority of headaches can be diagnosed as, and are almost never life threatening. Despite this frequency of occurence and a lack of life threatening danger, the primary headache can be very uncomfortable. Cluster headaches are a far more serious form of headache, that although not life threatening, can bring about serious pain. Secondary headaches are caused by a structural or chemical problem in the brain.

Most primary headaches are related to tension. The muscles that surround the skull sometimes contract, putting too much pressure on the head. This can cause a severe amount of pain. Although the reasons for skull muscle contraction are difficult to ascertain, it is commonly seen as a result of emotional or physical stress. Significant emotional stress typically results in a contraction of the muscles, and therefore a tension related headache. Prolonged physical stress, such as hard manual labor that is engaged in for several hours, can also result in headaches caused by tension.

Cluster headaches are a far rare occurence, and usually only afflict a tiny segment of the population. Sufferers usually experience cluster headaches only for a small window of time, thus the name “cluster” headache. This can make prevention and treatment difficult. When a cluster headache occurs, it can be accompanied by severe pain that focuses behind the eyes. Water running from the eyes and nose are common with cluster headaches. A cluster headache should be treated as soon as possible.

Secondary headaches usually represent a more serious issue. This is much rarer than primary headaches. A secondary headache can be indicative of internal bleeding in the brain, a tumor, or a malfunction of the brain. Headaches that occur frequently or on a regular basis should be cause for a check with the doctor. Secondary headaches can be quite painful, and may also be accompanied by other symptoms, such as sensory phenomenon. knowing the cause of headaches may help us to prevent further attacks.

When Excessive Drinking Results in Serious Health Problems

September 29, 2009 · Posted in Miscellaneous · Comment

For several years alcohol addiction research has demonstrated the fact that there is strong correlation between alcohol addiction and serious health conditions.

As an illustration, in 2005, scientific investigation and alcohol abuse and alcoholism statistics revealed that alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency cost the United States an estimated $220 billion per year. It can be stressed that this huge alcohol-related expense was significantly more than the cost linked with cancer ($196 billion) or with obesity ($133 billion). While it is important to emphasize these facts, it is also noteworthy to point out that an interrelationship exists between all three of these health issues.

To be exact, chronic alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction are also highly associated with obesity and with cancer.

Undeniably, substance abuse examination has shown that alcohol addiction can augment the risk for different forms of cancer, especially cancer of the colon, voice box (larynx), liver, rectum, throat, kidneys, and the esophagus. Abusive and repetitive drinking can also lead to immune system issues and harm to the fetus during pregnancy.

Hazardous and Excessive Drinking Breaks Down the Drinker’s Systems and Organs

Additionally, if alcoholism continues over a period of years, the individual’s body organs will probably be affected in a harmful manner. For example, chronic, excessive drinking is especially injurious to the liver due to the fact that the liver does most of the work of processing the alcohol that has been ingested. Extreme amounts of alcohol kills liver cells and destroys the ability of liver cells to regenerate. This medical circumstance leads to a progressive inflammatory injury to the liver that can eventually lead to cirrhosis of the liver, a critical and potentially terminal disease.Heavy, long-term drinking not only can lead to acute liver damage, but it can also lead to damage to the heart and to the brain. Physical damage this critical may be irreparable and may, in turn, result in severe ill health or an untimely death.

The Significance of Alcohol Therapy

It is vital, as a result, to know how to recognize the various alcoholism symptoms and the “alcohol signs” so that the alcoholic can be given the opportunity to seek the quality alcohol therapy he or she needs.

Alcoholism and Sophisticated Brain Exploration

Fortuitously, scientific examination is continuously uncovering unique and significant information. Recent alcoholism research offers a first-rate illustration. Stated differently, for approximately the past ten years, complex brain-imaging scanning instruments have confirmed that continuous and recurring irresponsible drinking changes the constitution of the brain to a substantial extent, therefore resulting in brain disease that can last months, years, or perhaps as long as the individual exists.

Stated differently, medical research has shown that individuals who have been drinking in an irresponsible manner for a sizeable length of time increase their risk for developing lasting and serious transformations in the brain.

This type of damage may be directly related to the alcohol’s effects on the brain, to severe liver disease, or might be indirectly associated with the drinker’s poor overall health.

Mental Disorders, Malnutrition, and Hazardous Drinking

As a final illustration of different medical problems that are largely correlated to alcohol addiction, consider that according to scientific examination, the hazardous and repeated abuse of alcohol can lead to erosive gastritis, a health problem that diminishes the absorption of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.

This form of organ malfunctioning is associated with malnutrition and to a variety of severe neurological and mental problems including sleep disturbances, memory loss, and psychosis such as Wernicke’s Encephalopathy and Korsakoff’s syndrome. This latter medical condition is an enduring debilitating condition that is typified by incessant learning and memory complications.

Conclusion

It is obvious that repetitive, abusive drinking is directly or indirectly correlated with numerous serious medical problems that can and do lead to serious diseases and premature death. Such information needs to be highlighted and presented to everyone in our society so that most individuals will be able to refrain from hazardous drinking while others who have a drinking problem will get the professional rehab they require.

A Television Documentary About Alcohol Dependence Symptoms Results in Some Uneasy and Depressing Thoughts About a Young Female’s Hazardous and Abusive Drinking

September 29, 2009 · Posted in Miscellaneous · Comment

Daniel had been engaging in fairly heavy drinking behavior since her senior year in college. Now, five years later, she drank more than ever. One Thursday evening when she was feeling ill, Daniel decided to stay home, lighten up, and watch TV.

While trying to find a special program to watch that she would find interesting, she instantaneously became fascinated with a program about young adult and adolescent drinking difficulties.

When Typical Alcoholic Signs and Symptoms are Revealed by Alcohol Dependent Individuals

The narrator defined the difference between alcohol abuse and alcoholism and then got into the subject of alcohol addiction symptoms and alcoholism warning signs. When the speaker went into detail about a person’s alcoholic behavior and some of the more widespread alcoholism symptoms and signs that alcohol addicted people manifest, Daniel got quite concerned because it virtually seemed as if the narrator was talking specifically to her.

After watching the television documentary, Daniel made a promise to herself that she would call her health care provider the next workday and make an appointment to discuss her drinking situation.

When the next business day arrived, true to her word, Daniel called her health care professional and made an appointment. While she was waiting for the day of her appointment to arrive, she went on the web and did a search for alcoholic symptoms. Especially noteworthy were the following symptoms or signs: major work-related and relationship problems, increasing irritability, making excuses to drink at almost every chance, sneaking a couple of extra drinks before social events, and sleep problems.

In a word, since Daniel displayed all of these symptoms she went further in her online search and found a number of websites and blogs that highlighted diverse alcoholic symptoms and warning signs.

One of the signs that really captured her curiosity was the following: “Do you often drink after promising yourself that you won’t?” While Daniel never concluded that she may have a critical drinking issue, after reading about the different alcoholism warning signs and symptoms, she couldn’t counter the fact that for the past nine or ten months, she over and over again tried but failed at substantially decreasing her drinking or quitting entirely.

When Friends and People at Your Place of Employment Irritate You by Disapproving of Your Hazardous Drinking Behavior

Another alcohol dependency symptom that grabbed her interest was the following: “Have coworkers pestered you by criticizing your drinking?” When Daniel read this she instantly reflected on a recent squabble she had with her uncle about her hazardous drinking behavior. Not only this but, Daniel visibly recalled a recent disagreement she had with her parents about her irresponsible drinking behavior. Due to the fact that Daniel sincerely thought that she didn’t have a drinking problem, when friends discussed her drinking she as expected got frustrated and irritated.

A third alcoholism symptom was the following: “Do you want a drink when you first awaken in the morning?” Until now, Daniel had been untruthful with herself about her drinking behavior. After reading about the aforementioned alcoholism warning signs, nevertheless, she knew if she was really honest with herself that she was facing a major drinking difficulty, especially given the fact that she now thought that she required a drink the first thing when she got up to cut down on her nervous tension.

Not only this but the next alcoholism warning sign really got her thinking about her problem drinking: “Do you drink to keep away from worries or problems?” When she thought about her life for a few minutes, she understood that just about in every tough situation in the past few months, she told herself that she needed a drink to help deal with the strife in her life.

The final alcohol addiction warning sign that made her feel relatively on edge about her drinking condition was the following: “Has your enthusiasm for life shrunk since you started drinking on a more normal basis?” When Daniel read this sign she openly realized that drinking had become a critical problem in her life because of her diminished energy level and also because she quit pursuing her passions and her goals.

Conclusion: When Dejection Turns Into Something Thrilling and A Sense of Expectation

After pondering the significance of all of these destructive alcoholic signs and symptoms, Daniel at first felt down in the dumps. Then something remarkable happened. She reflected on the fact knew that she was going to see her health care provider about her problem drinking and she also realized that she would discuss all of the above alcohol dependency warning symptoms and signs with her. As a matter of fact, for the first time in several months, Daniel honestly felt a sense of optimism because she was confronting her drinking problems and was at last ready to make the required changes so that she could re-establish the life that was drifting away.

Determining Causes Of Frequent Headache

September 29, 2009 · Posted in Miscellaneous · Comment

It may surprise you to know that there are many different types of headaches. If you suffer from frequent headaches you need to be careful that there is no serious underlying condition causing your headaches.

Learning about the different types of headaches will help you to determine what the source of your frequent headaches is. It is good to see a doctor about frequent headaches though most of the reasons of frequent headaches have a simple solution.

Sinus Headache: A Cause Of Frequent Headache

A sinus headache is sometimes confused with a stress headache cause. This is unfortunate as the two different types of headache require different types of treatment. To know whether it is a stress headache or other type of headache the times of the headaches is included.

If your headaches are very bad in the mornings but you feel less pain as the day progresses then you may have a sinus headache. Another telltale sign is increased pain when you bend down or make sudden moves. The causes of frequent sinus headache are due to inflammation and sinus congestion. Treating your sinus condition will help you to get rid of any headaches. Simple measures such as using a nasal spray, or dehumidifier can greatly help your condition.

Migraine Is Also A Causes Of Frequent Headache

Migraines are another common type of frequent headache. Usually pain is experienced only on one side of the head. The pain pulsates at one point and you may have other symptoms such as an increased sensitivity to light, nausea, and disruption of sleep patterns. In a few cases a person may be depressed when feeling migraines.

Rather than causes of frequent migraine headache you may be able to identify triggers of your migraines. Some women are affected by hormonal changes and this may be one of the causes of frequent migraine headache. Other triggers include alcohol, strong scents such as perfumes, stress, a change in weather or altitude, and certain types of foods. Discuss with your doctor how best to treat your migraines.

Medication Can Cure Causes Of Frequent Headache

Another one of the causes of frequent headache include certain types of medication. If you have started to experience headaches regularly after starting a new medication then you may need to talk to your doctor about changing your prescription or lowering your dose. Sometimes even over the counter medication can cause an adverse reaction such as this. Keep track of when your headaches occur and if they coincide with any medications you might be taking.

A Few Natural Headache Relief Methods

September 29, 2009 · Posted in Miscellaneous · Comment

Having a headache can ruin your whole day. If it shows up during the day, you hope it will just go away on its own. If you wake up with it, it can be particularly hard to get rid of it. To stop headache one uses drugs that may not be the safe way of getting rid of headache. Other options are also available.

If you’re struggling to relieve your headache, natural methods should be your first offensive measure.

Relaxing Goes A Long Way But Is Good

One huge natural headache relief, especially stress headaches, is to de-stress and relax. Lay down and consciously relax each muscle of your body. Unclench your hands and spread them out. Slacken your jaw and let your muscles sink down into the floor or bed.

While you’re lying down, you can try other natural ways to get headache relief. Using heat or cold can both counteract the headache. Apply moist head in the form of hot compresses on the portion of your head where you have the headache, or on your shoulders or head. Or use ice (wrapped in a cloth so your skin doesn’t get too cold) applied to your shoulders, neck, or forehead. Either of these can help you relax.

Massage can also help with natural headache relief while you’re relaxing. Get someone for doing massage to you. Get your shoulders, neck, or scalp massaged for the best results.

Get your body into a better position. It may seem like a simple thing, but your circulation and muscles work better when they are stretched and in good alignment. One should maintain good posture and keep muscles in right position. When the headache reflects this problem, stretch the muscles and re energize the circulation – and chances are, your headache will go away.

Eating And Drinking As Natural Headache Relief

You have to eat and drink. Our bodies need the fuel and fluids. Be sure you eat meals, as skipping them can cause headaches – especially skipping breakfast. If your headache can be related to fasting (going without food), a good way to get rid of your headache is to eat – it’s a natural method of headache relief. You will feel better when you give your body what it needs to function properly.

Not drinking enough water causes dehydration. Dehydration can result into headaches. Often before you even realize you’ve gone too long without water, your head will feel the ache and pain of dehydration.

A Health Teacher in the Most Underfinanced Co-Educational High School in the State Teaches Her Pupils About the Significance of Alcohol Dependency Signs

September 29, 2009 · Posted in Miscellaneous · Comment

Miss Benning was a health teacher at the largest co-educational high school in the region. Even though she had been teaching for only four years, she had already acquired a reputation as a teacher with a teaching approach that stimulated and inspired her students to learn and to think.

For instance, one Friday afternoon she addressed her pupils and said the following: “For the next three or four days we are going to learn about some basic alcoholism facts from a more broad-based standpoint and we are also going to learn about a number of the most familiar signs of alcoholism from a more specific standpoint.”

“Not all of these alcoholism signs will unquestionably demonstrate that someone with a drinking problem is an alcohol addicted person, but the more signs that an individual exhibits, the greater the possibility that he or she is a person who is addicted to alcohol.”

Miss Benning then told the students in the class that each individual would be accountable for examining two alcohol dependence signs and then presenting his or her findings to the class via a nine minute oral presentation.

The Pupils are Thrilled About Giving A Broad-Based Presentation to Their Fellow Classmates About The Signs of Alcohol Dependency

After learning about the diverse alcoholism signs for a number of days, the time had finally arrived for the student presentations. It was immediately noticeable that the pupils were wound up about the subject matter because the material that they presented was extraordinary. To say that Miss Benning was pleasantly surprised with the fervor displayed by the pupils in her classroom regarding this subject matter could not be overstated.

The day after all of the pupils completed their presentations, Miss Benning passed out a piece of paper with a list of all the alcohol dependency signs that were presented and discussed in class and in the presentations. Miss Benning then asked the students in her classroom to go over the list and rank the top nine alcohol addiction signs that were most indicative of alcoholism. After roughly twenty minutes, Miss Benning collected the sheets of paper and explained to her pupils that after she reviews the numbers, she will present her findings the next school day.

There was a real buzz by the pupils while they were leaving Miss Benning’s classroom. One could swear that her students couldn’t wait for the next day to arrive so that they could find out the outcome of their in-class research.

The Students Contrast Their Results With the Evaluations From A Council of Substance Abuse Professionals

When the next school day arrived, Miss Benning gave out a sheet of paper that listed the top four alcohol addiction signs according to the pupils’ rankings. To the left of these results, she added another column that was labeled “experts’ response.” She then informed the pupils in her class that the numbers in the new column she added stood for the responses that were stated by a council of chemical dependency experts.

Miss Benning asked her pupils to look over the information on the sheet of paper she passed out and then to raise their hand if they had any concerns, questions, or issues. Within 20 or 30 seconds, virtually everyone in the classroom raised his or her hand. It was clear to see that the students had some issues, questions, or concerns about their results versus the answers given by the authorities. For example, virtually every person in the classroom disagreed with the highest ranked answer given by the professionals, that is to say, “Do you feel unusually sick when you stop drinking?”

The Chief Difference Between Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Dependency is the Physical Dependency That is Experienced With Alcohol Dependency and Not With Alcohol Abuse

Miss Benning then informed the pupils in her class why this answer was the most clear-cut indicator of alcoholism. She stressed the fact that the basic difference between alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse is the physical dependency that is experienced with alcohol addiction and not with alcohol abuse.

For all intents and purposes this means that when a person who is alcohol dependent suddenly quits drinking, he or she will go through alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Miss Benning then informed her students that alcohol withdrawal symptoms are responses by the body and by the brain to the deficit of alcohol to which they had become acclimated. Stated more explicitly, alcohol withdrawal symptoms are messages from the brain and from the body telling an individual who is addicted to alcohol that something is terribly out of kilter and needs to be fixed. These messages consist of a number of uncomfortable, painful, and dangerous withdrawal symptoms that can potentially lead to a person’s death if the appropriate treatment is not immediately received.

Miss Benning then listed the host of alcohol withdrawal symptoms that can be gone through when an alcohol dependent person abruptly quits drinking.

The point that Miss Benning tried to emphasize was this: an alcohol abuser can experience almost any and every one of the alcohol addiction signs that the students had ranked, but the one symptom or sign that few, if any, alcohol abusers ever experience is alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

To articulate this as overtly as possible, Miss Benning emphasized the fact that alcohol abusers, unlike alcohol addicted people, are not alcohol dependent and accordingly, when they stop drinking, they almost never suffer from alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

The Students Feel They Have Uncovered A Variance With the Findings From The Board of Alcohol Dependency Experts

The pupils also disagreed with the second ranked answer given by the drug and alcohol addiction authorities, specifically, “Have you ever had a drink the first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover?”

Miss Benning explained to her pupils that this sign does not necessarily signify that the problem is alcohol addiction, but that it does underscore the need that alcohol addicted people have to drink in order to prevent alcohol withdrawals.

After Miss Benning explained the importance of alcohol withdrawal symptoms in the life of the alcohol addicted individual, the students started to recognize the primary difference between alcohol abuse and alcoholism.

To add a sense of closure to the subject matter, Miss Benning asked the students in her class to take out a piece of paper and answer the following question: “if every individual who is an alcoholic knew about every one of the alcohol addiction signs and alcohol withdrawal symptoms we have studied, what percentage of them do you think would get alcohol rehab?”

After about one or two minutes, Miss Benning asked for the pupils’ responses. While many students believed that roughly 85 to 95 percent of people who are alcohol dependent would obtain alcohol rehabilitation if they knew about the facts related to alcohol withdrawal symptoms and alcohol dependency signs, most of the pupils believed that this number would not be less than 55 percent.

The Pupils Were Shocked to Learn That Only 25% of Alcohol Dependent People in the United States Get Alcoholism Rehabilitation

To the shock of most of the students, Miss Benning declared that according to the research literature, only 25% of the alcohol dependent people in the United States obtain alcohol treatment. This surprised most of the pupils because they thought that exposure to the appalling facts and statistics correlated with alcohol addiction would motivate the majority of the alcohol addicted individuals to seek alcohol dependency treatment.

Miss Benning then explained that alcohol addicted individuals not only need alcohol on an everyday basis in order to function but they also require alcohol everyday so they can stay away from possible alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Apparently, the alcoholic’s need to drink on a daily basis is more powerful than logic or facts. Undeniably, since the thirst for alcohol is “reality” to the alcohol addicted individual, this is difficult to negate.

A few minutes later the bell rang, signaling the end of class. Based on the excitement manifested by the students when they were leaving the room, Miss Benning knew that she had stimulated and encouraged the students in her class to stop and think about a significant health and social problem that exists in our culture.
