Motivation and will power | Essential parts in gaining control over your sugar intake

April 16, 2009 · Posted in Changing Lifestyle, Healthy Eating · Comment

Motivation and will power are two important things when you shall gain control over your sugar cravings. You have to be strong and work with yourself, and say to yourself that I can do it! It is easy to give up or have a setback, so it is important that you know you are strong enough to reach the goals you set yourself. You have to set yourself goals that you can believe in, and know you can reach. Therefore you shall not hope that you can gain control over your sugar cravings, you shall know that you can do it!

A smart thing to do, is to in the beginning set yourself some very small goals that you absolutely for sure know you can manage. When you succeed in those small goals, you will feel the pride and joy over reaching something you said you would. Your self-confidence will grow slowly and slowly, up to a level where the next goals you set, won’t be so difficult. So, start with some very small simple goals, and then, later, when you have reached many of the smaller goals you made, you can increase your goals to something a little bit bigger. Something you may have to work a bit more to reach. But when you are at this point, you will have the self-confidence you saved up from reaching your smaller goals, and then it won’t be so difficult reaching your new, bigger goals!

You have to try your way to success, so do remember to start off easy! That is the key :)

From own experiences, I know how tempting it is to take out some snacks and other unhealthy things that is filled up with sugar, just because you are going to watch something on TV (which most of you probably do almost every evening). You have a hunger for something sweet to eat or drink, and that is the cravings you need to get rid of. Here it is very important to be strict with yourself.

The thought of something sweet will often come up in your mind, but it is what you choose to do with it that matters. If you want something sweet to eat, you can try to cut up some sweet fruits to eat, or some vegetables, and make yourself a healthy dip in addition to the veggies. This tastes almost as good as any candy or snacks, but it is so much healthier for you! If you try to put a positive spin on it, it will also taste much better. If you are negative to begin with, the food will taste thereafter. Look forward to every meal! Stay positive and look for healthier alternatives when you want something to eat. It doesn’t have to be complicated. The choice is yours, but in my mind, it is an easy one!

Stay motivated everyone!

3 Tips on Choosing the Right Home Exercise Equipment That Will Help Keep You in Tip Top Shape

April 6, 2009 · Posted in Exercising and Workout · Comment

When you take a look at the fitness products available in the market today, the myriad of options that you have is quite intimidating. If you keep on purchasing anything which you think looks good on infomercials, then you might end up having a lot of home exercise tools which are just gathering dust in your closet.

This is exactly the reason why you need to really think about which home exercise tool it is that will work for you. It should be one that will suit your budget as well as an equipment which you see yourself using for a long time.

3 Factors to Consider when Choosing a Home Exercise Equipment

To help you out in choosing the right home fitness equipment, here are a few things that you need to consider:

1. What is your problem area?
Remember that the primary purpose of buying a fitness machine is to help you achieve the results that you will have in the gym. There are people who prefer to do their fitness workouts right in the comfort of their own homes while other like going to the gym better.

If you belong to the first category, which equipment will help you work on your problem area? There are tools which help work on your abdominal muscles while others give you a more overall workout. Decide which areas of your body you would like to work on and use that to select the perfect equipment for you.

2. How much are you willing to spend?
The next thing that you need to decide on is how much of your hard-earned dollars you are willing to spend for a machine. If you are on a tight budget, consider purchasing a second hand machine which has probably been only used a few times by the owner.

3. How much storage space do you have for the home exercise machine?
If you don’t have that big of a space in your living room area, you might not want to get a bulky home exercise equipment. Always consider if you have enough space for storing whatever equipment it is that you plan to buy.

By taking these factors into consideration, you can choose a suitable machine that will help keep you in tip top shape.

You can also do simple exercises without any fancy equipment, as shown in the video above. One of the best workouts there is, is yoga, and you can get started really fast. Just get yourself an exercise matt, and a good DVD, I recommend this one: .

Becoming Healthy | Simple Steps to A Healthier Lifestyle

April 1, 2009 · Posted in Changing Lifestyle · Comment

Becoming healthy

Becoming healthy

Starting a new and healthy lifestyle is easy, and no matter where on the “health scale” you are at this point, you can change… And that fast. It is not difficult and does not have to be expensive.

Although I am no health expert or physician, I have gone through this process myself, I know the steps, and I want you to know them to.

…But, before we get started just let me tell you a little “secret”

Being healthy is not about:

    Did you know?

    • Healthy people live longer
    • Healthy living increases your brains size
    • Eating healthy will improve your skin
  • Only eating vegetables and low calorie foods
  • Exercising 2 hours a day
  • Never eating your favorite cake
  • Spending a ton of money on supplements and weight loss programs

No!

…Being healthy is about:

  • Giving your body the nutrients it needs
  • Staying active, and using your body the way it was meant to be used
  • Not being a fanatic (if you don’t want to of course :-)). Yes, you can eat some candy and cake… Just don’t too much of it.
  • If you follow the points above, you will not need any supplements and weight loss programs

Ok, now I am curious! But how do I do this?

- I am glad you asked!

Diet change:

I believe in a gradual transformation. And what I mean about that is: Changing overnight can be very difficult, and will often end in a lot of unnecessary craving for unhealthy food.

Here’s how it works:

Our bodies are like little children: Much like, if you take away his or hers teddy bear, your body will “cry” and become unhappy if you remove its daily chocolate, or two ;-).

I think you agree with me that it will be much better if you change your diet gradually, overtime, and avoid this unnecessary pain.

Let’s take a closer look at what a healthy diet is, and how you can adopt one…

The approach is simple: cut out high sugar/high fat foods, and replace that with low sugar/low fat foods. Do this gradually over a period of two weeks,or whatever time frame suits you best.

Bellow I have listed a few points that should help you get started.

  • Eat 4-5 times a day (Eat less, but more often). Don’t let it be more than tops 4 hours between each meal.
  • Experiment and find fruit, berries, and vegetables that you like. Go to the supermarket and try a few different ones, then buy the ones you like. Start eating these instead of candy and unhealthy snack. Click here to view healthy snack ideas
  • Stick to the 5 a day (2 fruits and 3 vegetables). This may sound like a lot at first, but once you start you’ll see how easy it really is. A tip: The more color the veggie/fruit/berry has, the better it is for your body.
  • Eat whole grain bread
  • Cook your food in oils like olive or sun seed oil (my favorite)
  • Cut out high sugar cereals. A nice substitute is oatmeal with banana.
  • Get a diet book that contains healthy recipes and good information. I recommend:

Exercising:

The dreaded part? At least it for me, at first…

Believe it or not, but you do not have to exercise for hours each day to live a healthy life. A trip to the swimming alley once a week, a run every three days, and a 30 minute walk each day, can be a great exercise program.

If you are not the biggest fan of exercising (believe me, I understandJ), taking up yoga is a great choice! I do yoga almost every day, and let me tell you that it is a great workout. You can go to a Yoga class (I don’t), or get yourself an exercise matt, and yoga DVD, I recommend this one:

To sum up:

Eating healthy is about giving your body the nutrients it needs. Find healthy food that you like and start eating these instead of candy and unhealthy snacks. Remember to Get yourself a good diet/cookbook. I recommend:

Remember to eat at least 4 to 5 time a day, and never let it be more than 4 hours between each meal you eat.

Start a daily exercise program, or begin doing Yoga, Pilates, etc.

I hope this helped,

Ok, now go out there and join us “Healthy Bastards”!
